The Post-Graduate Department of English, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, organised a lecture on 28th April, 2022 on the topic of British Modern Fiction for its Post-Graduate and Undergraduate Honours students. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Meenu A. Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

 The lecture followed its title, “Hard Times: A Cautionary Beckoning to Modern Age” both in letter and spirit.  Dr. Gupta took the opportunity to enlighten the students about the various aspects of literature both in the present times as well as the past by stressing on the motto of the Modern age: ‘Art for life’s sake.’

 

Through her lecture, Dr. Gupta wished to inculcate in the students the quality of inquisitiveness by making them curious about life and literature. She even touched upon certain philosophical aspects using various anecdotes, giving the subject a new charm. The students fervently participated in the lecture making it an interactive and fruitful session.

 The Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur commended the efforts of the Post-Graduate Department of English, and stressed her support for more such productive and immersive lectures in the future for the benefit of the students.

 

 

 

 

Department of Hindi of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh celebrated Mahadevi Verma Jayanti on 28 March 2022.

On this occasion, Dr. Aradhana, Head of Department, apprised the students of the characteristics of the literature of Chhayavadi poet Mahadevi Verma and told that Nirala Ji had called Mahadevi ji as Saraswati of the huge temple of literature. Students recited her poems with great enthusiasm. Around 120 students participated in the juncture.

The campus of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh resonated with melodious rendition of Gurbani Kirtan as the students and staff celebrated the College Sthapana Diwas on March 26, 2022.

The event marked the commemoration of the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. On the occasion, the Bhog of Sehaj Paath, which commenced at the beginning of the session 2021-2022, was concluded. Gurbani Vichar on the life of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was delivered by Bhai Balwinder Singh Ji, Granthi, Shri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar. The Kirtan was performed by Bhai Shaukeen Singh Ji, Hajuri Ragi, Shri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar.  BA Second year student Simran also performed the Kirtan. The euphonic Kirtan left the devotees mesmerised and enthralled.

S. Gurdev Singh (I.A.S. Retd.) President, S.E.S, S. Col.(Retd.) J.S. Bala, Secretary, S.E.S. and S. Karandeep Singh Cheema Joint Secretary, S.E.S. graced the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur and conveners of the function Mrs. Harbinder Kaur, Dr. Ramneek Kohli and Dr. Surinder Kaur for successfully organizing the function so well.

Post Graduate Department of Commerce of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector- 26, Chandigarh, organized an Expert Talk on Digital Security, Financial and Consumer Awareness on 24 March 2022.

The expert talk was delivered by Dr. Monica Aggarwal of PGGC-11, Chandigarh. She introduced the topic by providing valuable insights into how financial planning can greatly enhance the returns for varied investors. She further explained the various investment alternatives available for investors and risk-return trade off. She also emphasized on the power of compound interest along with the various factors to be considered before borrowing money. The expert answered various queries at the end of the session. The talk was attended by around 100 students of the College.

In order to provide a propitious environment to young bibliophiles, the Post Graduate Department of English of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh observed World Book Day with an Inter-College Competition held on 23rd April, 2022.

 

The theme for the competition was 'Write Your Own Twist to the Ending'. The students were given a list of books, they had to read any one book of their choice and change the ending of the story imaginatively. This competition was conducted to encourage reading habits among students.

 

More than 30 entries were received from various colleges of Chandigarh. Sarthak Arya of GGDSD-32 bagged first prize, Vinya Singh of MCM DAV- 36 won the second prize and Naveena Lufar secured third position. Rajneesh Kaur of GGSCW- 26 won Special Mention Prize for script and Harshit Sharma of SGGSC-26 won the same prize for expression. The prize winners were given books to mark this special day.

The Principal of the College, Dr. Jatinder Kaur lauded the efforts of the department of English and apprised the students of the importance of reading books and advised them to inculcate the habit of reading good books. The competition was a great success.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

To celebrate the World Earth Day, VASUDHA - Environment Society of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector- 26, Chandigarh, organized an Intra-College Poetry Recitation Competition on 22 April 2022, sponsored by Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration.

 

The students from various streams of the College enthusiastically participated in the competition as they got an opportunity to exhibit their talent. Beautiful recitations were presented by the students on the theme ‘Invest in Our Planet’.

 

More than 30 students presented their thoughts, emotions, rhythm and music of words in different languages.The judges appreciated and applauded the performances of the participants. The winners were awarded with the cash prizes. Short video on SAY NO to "SINGLE USE PLASTIC "was shown to students.

 

The Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur lauded the efforts of the members of VASUDHA- Environment Society and students for being part of the activity and making it a great success.

 

 

To mark the 400th Prakash Purab of ninth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji, a free eye and dental check-up was organised by Student Welfare Society of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh in collaboration with Super Speciality Hospital, Sohana on 21 April 2022.

Dr. Manjot Singh and Dr. Girish Goyal, dentist and consultant, along with Dr. Pratyuksh, Optometrist, conducted the camp for faculty, staff and the students. They examined the students and made them aware of dental hygiene and insisted on special care of eyes required after the sudden increase in screen time during and post COVID lockdown. The doctors further emphasised on the need to have regular screening of eyes and dental check-up to ensure a healthy lifestyle. Around 200 students and staff members benefited from the camp.

Dr. Jatinder Kaur, Principal of the College, appreciated the valuable time and guidance provided by the specialised team of doctors for spreading such vital health awareness and for rendering moral and selfless service to the society.

 

 

 

 

 

 

With immense zeal, fervor and excitement, VASUDHA, the Environment Society of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector- 26, Chandigarh, organized an inter-college competition to celebrate 'World Forest Day' sponsored by Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration, on 21 March 2022.

The theme of the event was ‘Forests and Sustainable Production and Consumption’.

Around 100 students from various colleges actively participated in Slogan Writing and Rangoli Making competitions. The artistic skills of the students were exhibited to their best. Cash Prizes were given to the prize winners.

In Slogan Writing Competition, Ms. Ekta Gupta bagged the first prize, from Govt. Home Science College, Sector 10, Chandigarh. Second prize was secured by Mr. Khem Parsad from PGGC- 46, Chandigarh and third prize was won by Simranpreet from GGSCW- 26 Chandigarh.

In Rangoli Making Competition, Ms. Naman won the first prize from GGDSD College Sector 32 Chandigarh. The second prize was secured by Ms. Amanpreet Kaur & Ms.  Sapna from PGGC- Sector 46, Chandigarh and the third prize was won by Ms. Anshika & Ms. Kirti from MCM DAV Sector 36, Chandigarh. Consolation Prizes were also given to the deserving students. 

Mr. Rahul Mahajan, an Environmentalist and Founder of Organic Sharing, graced the occasion with his presence and explained about the importance of forests in saving our environment.

The Placement Cell of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organised a placement drive for its students on 13 April 2022.

Two renowned companies, namely, Touchstone Educationals and EGIYOK (All Agri Online Pvt. Ltd.) conducted the drive in the College campus. Ms. Anjana Jain, Manager Operations, Touchstone Educationals and Mr. Ajay Narwal and Ms. Moninder Kaur, HR Manager, EGIYOK, apprised the students of the job profiles of their respective companies.

The process of recruitment comprised of multiple rounds – Aptitude Test, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview. Final year students of all streams participated in this drive. Around 100 students appeared for the drive. 20 students were given the offer letters and 3 students are in the waiting list. The students were glad to have received an opportunity in getting placed.

Dr Jatinder Kaur, Principal, lauded the efforts of the Placement Cell in organising the drive and motivated the students to participate in such drives to improve their chances of finding suitable jobs.

 

 

 

 

Raahat, the welfare society of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh performed Nukkad Natak (Street Plays) at two different spots in Kishangarh village on April 11, 2022.

The theme of the street play was 'Importance of Sports'. 13 students of the College performed their part in the play. After the play, Raahat coordinators, Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur and Dr. Aradhana discussed the topic with the children of the village and their parents as well.  A workshop on “Reference Management Tools: A Boon for Academic Fora” was organized by College Library in collaboration with Department of Psychology of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh on 6th May, 2022.

 Honourable Dr. Nirmal Singh, Assistant Librarian of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana was the Resource Person. He delivered the lecture and demonstrated the usability of the Mendeley Reference Management Software. He gave the hands on experience to use the software. He also talked about Plagiarism. The interactive exercises worked very well with the students. The students enthusiastically participated and found the session very informative. 

The Principal of the College, Dr. Jatinder Kaur welcomed Dr Nirmal Singh and appreciated his efforts on dissemination of such insightful information.

 

 

IT Fiesta was organized by Department of Computer Science and Applications of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh on 05 April 2022. It was held in collaboration with DST (Department of Science and Technology), Chandigarh Administration to promote awareness of science and technology amongst the youth. 

Dr. Rohini Sharma, Chairperson, DCSA, Panjab University was the honourable Chief Guest. She apprised the students of the exponentially growing technology and we all need to keep pace with technology.

Students from 20 colleges in and around the city participated in this event. Various competitions were held under this event pertaining to IT like Website Designing, Power point presentation, Cartooning, Software Debugging, Rangoli, Face Painting, e-Waste modelling, e-collection drive, caption contest etc.  Dance was performed to embrace the fusion between technology and entertainment.

Honourable Chief Guest, Dr. Rohini Sharma, congratulated the College and the Department for organizing such an event and stressed on the importance of such competitions which helps in enhancing the personality of students.

The most exuberantly expected campus Placement Drive held at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh.

The Placement Cell of the College organised a three-day Placement Drive from 04 May 2022 to 06 May 2022. Region's reputed organisations came to interview and select students. EGIYOK (All Agri Online Pvt. Ltd.) conducted an internship drive on 4th May, 2022. Mr. Ajay Narwal, Head- HR Teams with his team members interviewed students and selected 20 candidates for internship.

Decathlon Sports India Private Limited conducted the drive on 5th May, 2022. Mr. Harpreet Singh, Mr. Daman Gambhir and Mr. Aditya Sharma, gave a presentation to the students about Decathlon and apprised them of the job profiles.

Around 65 students appeared for the drive. 13 students were shortlisted for the interview after the test and group discussion. 6 students were given the offer letters.

Piramal Capital and Housing Finance Company visited the campus on 6th May, 2022. Ms. Simarpreet Kaur, Ms. Ishwari Girdhar, Ms. Prachi Mankame and Ms. Kamalpreet Kaur interacted with the students.  Around 48 students appeared for the interview and 44 students were selected and were given the offer letters. The students were glad to have received an opportunity in getting placed.

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, under the aegis of IQAC Cell organised an Expert Lecture on Startups, Entrepreneurship and Innovation for the students pursuing Certificate Course in Business Skills on 4th May,2022.

Mr. Paramjeet Singh, Director, RCED, Chandigarh, enlightened the students by sharing knowledge on entrepreneurship and startups and their vital role in the industry. He discussed a number of avenues available for startups. The speaker appraised the students about the prerequisites of starting a business venture and also shared a few tips to convert it into a profitable one.

He also shared the instances of great entrepreneurs in India. It was a great learning for all the students as they enjoyed the question and answer session and got the opportunity to clear their doubts.

Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, HOD, Department of Commerce thanked the expert for sharing his knowledge and expertise with the students.
