Guru Gobind Singh College for Women under the aegis of Sikh Educational Society (SES), Chandigarh, organised the release of the book ‘Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji – A Multidisciplinary Study of His Life and Legacy’ on August 31, 2026. The event was held in the presence of the Chief Guest, Baba Sarabjot Singh Bedi and members of the Sikh Educational Society, Chandigarh: Dr. Birendra Kaur, Vice President, SES; Col. (Retd.) Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary, SES and other senior members of the management.

 

Belonging to a distinguished Sikh lineage traditionally tracing its ancestry to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Baba Sarabjot Singh Bedi represents a continuing link between Sikh spiritual heritage, historical memory and contemporary Panthic service. His presence added significance to the occasion commemorating the life, legacy and supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

 

Addressing the gathering, Baba Sarabjot Singh Bedi reflected on Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life and martyrdom as a timeless message to humanity—of courage, compassion, sacrifice and standing up for the oppressed. Describing him as a “shield for humanity” and a symbol of unparalleled vision, he emphasised that the true purpose of life is not what we acquire for ourselves, but what we do to protect the downtrodden and uphold human dignity. He observed that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life reminds us that history must not merely be remembered, but must inspire us to serve, protect and stand for what is right.

 

Col. (Retd.) Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary, SES, while addressing the audience expressed concern that while academicians continue to produce valuable scholarly works, the habit of reading is gradually declining. He noted that Sikhs, too, must revive their engagement with the rich intellectual and spiritual heritage of their tradition and the present book is a step in that direction. He called upon the younger generation to rediscover the habit of reading, learning and reflection—not merely to understand history, but to become more compassionate, responsible and enlightened individuals.

 

The book, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji – A Multidisciplinary Study of His Life and Legacy, edited by Dr Surinder Kaur, HoD Department of History, is a collection of scholarly essays selected from papers presented at the One-Day International Seminar, “Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji: From Meditation to Martyrdom – A Study of Legacy and Impact,” held on February 5, 2026. The publication brings together diverse scholarly perspectives on the life, martyrdom and enduring legacy of the Ninth Sikh Guru, while exploring his contribution to Sikh history and the broader ideals of human dignity, freedom of conscience and religious freedom.

 

The book release was followed by the retirement function of the Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur who superannuated after an illustrious academic and administrative career of 35 years.

GGSCW-26 conducted the Student Council Elections on 31st August, 2026 in accordance with the norms of Panjab University Student Council Elections 2026-27 Schedule.

 

Ms. Aastha Panwar (BCom III) was elected the President, Ms. Arti Jaswal (BCom III) won the post of Vice President, Ms. Shavy Sood (BCA III) was elected as the Secretary and Ms. Nandini (BA II) became the Joint Secretary. All the candidates were given the charge unanimously. 

 

The winners celebrated their victory with great zeal and revelry. Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, congratulated the winners on the occasion and advised them to work hard and be faithful and sincere towards their elected office.

Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh celebrated NEP Day under the aegis of Institution’s Innovation Council on July 29, 2026 by organizing a Panel Discussion on the theme "NEP 2020: Shaping the Future of Higher Education”

 

The event brought together faculty members and students to deliberate on the key features of the National Education Policy 2020, its implementation strategies, and its impact on curriculum, pedagogy, research, and skill development in higher education.

 

Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr Jatinder Kaur, said that the NEP 2020 is a landmark reform that envisions a multidisciplinary, flexible, and student-centric education system. Institutions must take the lead in implementing its core principles to prepare learners for future challenges.

 

Dr Harneet Kaur, Nodal Officer, NEP Implementation said that the policy emphasizes academic flexibility, technology integration, and holistic development. 

 

Today’s discussion provided valuable insights from the students on the need for promoting critical thinking, skill-based learning, research culture, and industry-academia collaboration as outlined in the policy. Students also shared their views on how NEP 2020 can make education more inclusive and career-oriented.

 

The event concluded with a vote of thanks reaffirming the College’s commitment to implementing NEP 2020 guidelines to enhance the quality and relevance of higher education.

Guru Gobind Singh College for Women celebrated Guru Purnima with great reverence and enthusiasm on 29th July, 2026. A special lecture was organized to highlight the significance of the Guru in shaping the lives of students and nurturing values, knowledge, and character.

 

Addressing the gathering, Dr Aradhna, Associate Professor, Dept of Hindi emphasised that while information is readily available in the digital age, it is the Guru who transforms information into wisdom and inspires students to become responsible, compassionate, and ethical individuals. The lecture encouraged students to cultivate discipline, curiosity, humility, and a lifelong love for learning.

 

The rich Indian tradition of the Guru–Shishya relationship was highlighted, reminding students that teachers not only impart academic knowledge but also guide them towards moral and personal excellence. Students were urged to respect their teachers, parents, and all those who contribute to their learning and growth.

 

The programme concluded with a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the teaching fraternity for their unwavering commitment to shaping future generations. 

 

The celebration was attended by the Principal, faculty members, and a large number of students, making the occasion meaningful and memorable.

With the objective of fostering environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable practices, a Tree Plantation Drive was organised by Vasudha Environment Society. The Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration sponsored the plants for the drive.The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, students, non-teaching staff, and members of the club.

 

The Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, appreciated the efforts of the society. Students pledged to nurture the saplings and actively participate in future environmental initiatives.

The plantation drive not only beautified the campus but also reinforced the institution’s commitment to environmental conservation and the ideals of sustainable development.

Orientation Programmes for the newly admitted B.Com and BA Semester I students were conducted to mark the beginning of the academic session 2026-27.

 

The programme commenced with an engaging ice-breaking session, helping the students interact with one another and feel at ease in their new academic environment. The faculty members introduced themselves and acquainted the students with the subjects they would be teaching during the semester. Students were also briefed about the prescribed books, course structure, academic expectations, and evaluation pattern.

 

To provide a clear academic roadmap, the Course Outcomes (COs) were explained, highlighting the knowledge and skills students are expected to develop during the programme. The semester timetable was also shared, ensuring a smooth and well-organised start to their academic journey.

GGSCW organised a Freshers’ party to welcome the new batch of students to its campus. The event was a spectacular blend of music, dance, and camaraderie, setting the tone for the new academic year and creating unforgettable memories for the newcomers.

 

The event included a series of dazzling performances by seniors, including dance routines and musical acts highlighting the diverse talents within the college community.

 

One of the main attractions of the evening was the ramp walk, where participants showcased their confidence and charm in front of a panel of judges. Japdeep Kaur (BCom) won the title of Miss Fresher, while Ravneet Kaur (BA) bagged the first runner up position, with Vanshika (MCom) winning the second runner up position. Ranshika Singh (BCA) was awarded the title of Miss Confident and Navkiran Kaur (MCom) won the title of Miss Charming.

 

The DJ set the dance floor on fire with a mix of popular tracks, and the dance floor was soon packed with students enjoying themselves.

 

Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur applauded the efforts of the DSW team and faculty. She also congratulated the winners and welcomed the students to College life.

World Entrepreneurship Day was celebrated at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh, through a series of entrepreneurial activities organized by the Institution Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with the Department of Commerce and Club Saksham. The celebrations brought together students from different streams and provided them the opportunity to develop, present, and implement entrepreneurial ideas through a Business Plan Competition.

 

The Competition witnessed participation from six teams. Each team presented its business plan, demonstrating its understanding of business opportunities, innovation, market potential, feasibility, and implementation strategies. The best-performing teams and participants were recognized for their innovative ideas and effective business presentations and were awarded certificates.

 

Alongside the Business Plan Competition, Club Saksham, organized a Pop-Up Café which served as a practical entrepreneurial marketplace, demonstrating how creative skills, traditional products, and culinary ideas can be developed into small-scale business opportunities.

 

Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur applauded the efforts of the faculty members in organising such a unique competition which encouraged students to practically implement the skills learnt in classrooms.

GGSCW marked the commencement of the new academic session 2026–27 with an Inaugural Day-cum-Orientation Programme, organised by the Gurmat Vichar Sabha of the College.

 

The programme commenced with soulful Shabad Kirtan presented by the College students, followed by Anand Sahib Paath and Ardaas. The spiritual proceedings also marked the beginning of Sehaj Path, which will be undertaken continuously throughout the academic session by the staff and students.

 

The inaugural ceremony was followed by an orientation session organised to welcome the newly admitted students to the 2026–27 academic session. The students were introduced to the faculty members, college facilities, clubs, societies and infrastructure. They were also apprised of the College’s ethics, code of conduct, and the various academic, co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities available to them. Information regarding the events, competitions and activities scheduled throughout the academic year was also shared with the students.

 

Principal Dr Jatinder Kaur extended a warm welcome to the students and encouraged them to embrace their new academic journey with enthusiasm, discipline and a positive spirit. She wished them success and a rewarding experience in the upcoming academic year.

The NSS Units of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women , Children organised a resplendent Tricolour Activity and Rally under the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign, as an integral part of the Independence Day celebrations.

The programme commenced with a stirring display of patriotism through the Tricolour, wherein NSS volunteers participated with immense zeal and fervour, reaffirming their allegiance to the nation. This was followed by the Long Spread of Tiranga, an initiative undertaken to propagate the message of unity and nationalism among the student community. The celebrations further culminated in a spirited Tricolour Rally that traversed through the college campus, echoing with patriotic slogans and radiating a profound sense of national pride and solidarity.

Principal Dr. Jatinder Kaur lauded the enthusiastic participation of the NSS volunteers and encouraged them to continue upholding the values of unity, discipline and responsible citizenship in the service of the nation.

The Departments of History and Political Science, of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Electoral Literacy Club organised a Quiz Competition on the theme “Indian Freedom Struggles”, with special focus on the "Role of Women in the Freedom Struggle, Electoral History, Democracy and the Constitution" to commemorate the 80th Independence Day of our nation.

The event was conducted in different rounds and around 100 students participated. The three winning teams were awarded prizes by the Principal. 

 

Principal Dr Jatinder Kaur congratulated the winners and participants and shared her views on the significance of Indian Independence, highlighting the importance of remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters and upholding democratic and constitutional values.

Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, organized an Orientation Cum Registration Programme for NSS volunteers.

A total of 94 NSS volunteers participated with great enthusiasm, and were guided by NSS PO Dr. Garima Arora, who briefed them about the objectives, activities, and functioning of NSS, while introducing the NSS motto "Not Me But You" emphasizing community service, social responsibility, and discipline. The registration process was also completed, formally enrolling the volunteers for upcoming NSS activities.

Principal Dr. Jatinder Kaur appreciated the volunteers' enthusiasm and encouraged them to actively contribute to society through NSS.

The programme successfully inspired volunteers to embrace the spirit of selfless service.

The festival of Teej was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, on 6th August, 2026. Students and faculty members, dressed in vibrant traditional attire, beautifully reflected the spirit and cultural richness of the festival.

 

A major attraction of the celebration was the exquisitely decorated floral 'Peengh' (swing), symbolising the traditions and heritage of Punjab. Students enthusiastically participated in various competitions, including Miss Teej, Miss Sohni Mutiaar, and Miss Punjaban. Traditional food stalls serving delicacies such as Kheer-Pooras added to the festive atmosphere.

 

Club Saksham, the Student Self-Help Group of the College, also contributed to the celebrations by setting up a Mehndi Stall and a Fresh Lime Stall. The campus resonated with joy as students danced to traditional Punjabi songs and music.

 

In the competitions, Navkiran Kaur (M.Com I) was crowned Miss Teej, Riya (BA I) won the title of Miss Sohni Mutiaar, and Vinita (BCom III) and Taniya (BA I) were crowned Miss Punjaban.

 

The Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, congratulated the winners and appreciated all the students for their graceful traditional attire. She highlighted the importance of preserving cultural values and traditions and encouraged students to remain connected to their roots while embracing the future.
