Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh released the seventh issue of its E-journal , Gyankosh, today. Gyankosh is an annual double blind peer reviewed interdisciplinary journal. This issue contains more than ten high-quality research papers contributing to interdisciplinary studies. Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur complimented the editorial team in contributing to quality research studies.
The VADA Club and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) Hostel committee of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women organized a Capacity Building Workshop on ‘Youth Leadership in Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan: Paving the Way for a Viksit Bharat 2047 with Drug-free Institutions’ led by Mr Dikshant Sharma, Field Expert—MV, Research & Evaluation, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. The resource person highlighted the problem of drug abuse among young people using several case studies and data. The students were made aware of the causes behind drug addiction and ways to prevent this problem through self-awareness and self-control.
Department of Psychology of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, sector-26, Chandigarh, in collaboration with GGSCW Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness & the Art of Living organized a workshop on the first World Meditation Day on 21st December 2024. This workshop aimed to promote emotional health and enhance well-being. The resource person on the occasion was Ms. Madhavi Rana, a dedicated teacher from The Art of Living. The workshop started with sooksham vyayam (streching exercises )followed by 30 minutes of guided meditation for soothing the nerves and enhancing focus in the participants. The resource person stressed that meditation was not about achieving perfection, but cultivating a deeper sense of peace and connection within. Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur thanked the resource person and wished to have more sessions in the coming future.
Ms. Nitu, an alumna of GGSCW-26 became the proud recipient of the Arjuna Award. The award, officially known as Arjuna Awards given for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games, is the second-highest sporting honour of India and honours hard work, dedication and concentration of sportspersons. The award was conferred on Ms. Nitu by the Hon'ble President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu during an official function on 17th January, 2025. The award recognises her immense contribution to the field of boxing (48 kg category) at the international level. She had also won various championships while pursuing her graduation from Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, like AIBA Youth Women's World Boxing Championship, 3rd International Women's and Women's Youth Boxing Tournament Balkan, ASBC Asian Youth Men's and Women's Boxing Championship, AIBA Youth Women's and Men's World Championship, Youth Women's International Championship, 2nd Youth Men's and Women's National Boxing Championship and Khelo India Games.
A Financial Literacy Programme was held at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh aimed at equipping faculty members with financial management skills. It was held under the initiative taken by Reserve Bank of Indian and Director of Higher Education, Chandigarh. The programme was conducted by the officials from Kotak Mahindra Bank. Kotak experts covered key financial principles, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between needs and wants, strategies to get out of debt, and the value of living within one’s means. Faculty members were encouraged to adopt prudent financial practices, such as saving a significant portion of income, minimizing unnecessary spending, and only borrowing when necessary for investments or starting a business. The session also included valuable advice on digital banking safety. Kotak experts shared practical tips for debit and credit card security, such as avoiding storing card details online, using secure networks, and setting up transaction alerts to monitor account activity. The session concluded with insights into customer rights and the government’s Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, which aims to address banking grievances effectively. Vice Principal, Ms Prabhjot Kaur, applauded the initiative of the government and RBI. She also thanked Kotak Mahindra Bank for its commitment to empowering the faculty members with essential financial literacy and responsible money management skills.
The NSS Unit of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, organized a seven-day Special Camp from 28th December, 2024 to 3rd January, 2025, with the theme "Youth for My Bharat and Youth for Digital Literacy." The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from 65 volunteers. Key activities included lectures, video sessions, and experience-sharing on topics like digital literacy, healthy habits, and social responsibility. Eminent speakers such as Nemi Chandi (NSS SLO), Mr. Abhinav Dogra (Career Counseling), Ms. Jasbir Kaur (Cybersecurity for Women), Dr. Savneet Bedi (Social Media Use), Mr. Harman Singh Sian (Financial Literacy), and Ms. Madahvi Rana (Mental Health) enriched the sessions. Volunteers conducted a door-to-door survey, an awareness drive among hostellers, and engaged in activities like card-making and presented a Nukkad Natak in Kishangarh on the theme of digital literacy. The camp also featured a visit to Sukhna Lake to raise awareness. This impactful event strengthened the spirit of community service and youth empowerment amongst the participants. Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur congratulated the faculty and volunteers on the completion of the 7 day camp and encouraged the students to work more in the direction of serving others.
