A function commemorating Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra, the great Panthic leader was organised by Sikh Educational Society (SES) under the guidance of S. Gurdev Singh (President SES) and Col. (Retd.) J.S. Bala (Secretary SES) at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh. Prof Ranjit Singh Ghuman, Professor of Eminence, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar graced the occasion as the chief guest and felicitated the two recipients of Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra Memorial Award, Prof. (Retd.) Dharam Singh, Former Head, Punjabi School of Education, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Prof. Kulwant Singh, Associate Professor (Retd.), PGGC-11, Chandigarh. On the occasion, SES also released a souvenir and 3 books compiled under the guidance of S. Gurdev Singh, President SES and editorship of Col. (Retd.) S. Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary SES, titled 'Sikh Panth: Tatt atte Sarokar', 'Punjab de Kisan: Masle atte Sangharsh' and 'Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra: Ramza, Tarba atte Zarba'. Col. (Retd.) S. Jasmer Singh Bala, Seretary SES welcomed all the guests and shared the contribution of Jathedar Tohra in the history of Sikh Educational Society. He also shed light on the conception and institution of the Award after the demise of the late stalwart in 2004. Dr Ranjit Singh Ghuman, in his address, talked about the invaluable contribution made by Jathedar Tohra towards the regeneration of social, political and religious life of Punjab. He also laid stress on the inspiration he drew from Jathedar Tohra as a man and leader of the people. Dr Ghuman shared a few anecdotes from the life of Jathedar Tohra and highlighted the importance of education in the present scenario. In line with the vision of Jathedar Tohra, the award function is organised every year and several distinguished intellectuals and academicians have been felicitated over the years. Prof. (Retd.) Dharam Singh, and Prof. Kulwant Singh were honoured with the Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra Award at the award function for their contribution to the socio-political thought of Punjab through their literary writings. The theme paper on the occasion was read by Dr Indu Banga, a recipient of the Tohra Memorial award and Professor Emeritus (Department of History, PU, Chandigarh. She talked about Banda Singh Bahadur and his contribution to Punjab via the inspiration he received from Guru Gobind Singh Ji. This set the stage for the establishment of sovereignty of Sikhs in Punjab which reached its culmination in the form of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. President SES, S. Gurdev Singh delivered the Vote of Thanks and praised 'Panth Rattan' Jathedar Tohra for his efforts, not only for the Sikh Community, education and Sikh Educational Society but everyone in general. He also appreciated the efforts of the Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur and her staff members for the smooth conduct of the programme. The function was attended by all the members of SES Management as well as SES institutions, scholars and educators from various universities including Dr Dharamjit Singh, VC, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Jalandhar and the faculty and staff of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women.
GGSCW-26 is thrilled to share the incredible achievements of its rowing team at the Panjab University Inter-College Rowing (Women) Competition, held at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh. The team brought home an impressive 13 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal. The Yachting team added to this tally by winning 1 gold and 1 silver medal. Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 44th Convocation and Annual Prize Distribution for the academic session 2024–2025. The occasion was one of immense pride and joy, as more than 400 degrees were conferred upon students across undergraduate programmes including BA, BCom, BCA, and BSc, as well as postgraduate courses comprising MA English, MA Economics, and MCom. Hon'ble Member of Parliament, Sh. Manish Tewari, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Ms. Rashanpreet Kaur, International Hockey Player and an illustrious alumna of the college, was the Guest of Honour. The event commenced with the ceremonial academic procession, led by Hon'ble MP Sh. Manish Tewari, lending a dignified and solemn air to the proceedings. In his address, Mr. Tewari offered a deeply reflective and inspiring message to the graduating students. He spoke about the significance of staying rooted in one’s cultural and moral values, especially in a world undergoing rapid transformation due to technological advancement and artificial intelligence. Drawing from his own spiritual experience at Anandpur Sahib, he highlighted the importance of perseverance, ethical grounding, and national pride. He urged students to maintain intellectual curiosity, embrace lifelong learning, and remain agile in a fast-changing world without compromising on integrity or compassion. As a powerful gesture of his commitment to women’s education and institutional development, Mr. Tewari announced a grant of ?10 lakh to the college from his MPLADS fund. He expressed hope that the contribution would support the college’s continued efforts in empowering young women and enhancing educational infrastructure. Ms. Rashanpreet Kaur, in her motivating words, encouraged students to rise above societal expectations and shared her personal journey at the college as a source of strength and inspiration. She urged them to remain focused, fearless, and proud of their roots. The event was also graced by S. Gurdev Singh, (Retd. I.A.S), President, Sikh Educational Society (SES); Col. (Retd.) The campus of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, echoed with the soulful strains of Gurbani Kirtan as students, faculty, and staff gathered to celebrate Founder’s Day of the College on 14th February, 2025. To honour the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and mark the Founder's Day, the event commenced with the bhog of Sri Akhand Paath Sahib, followed by an inspiring performance of Shabad Kirtan by the students of the College and Bhai Hargeet Singh, Tabla instructor in the College. The highlight of the occasion was the enthralling Shabad Kirtan by Bhai Shubhdeep Singh, Hazoori Ragi from Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar. His melodious rendition left the attendees deeply moved and mesmerized. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries of Sikh Education Society, including S. Gurdev Singh (I.A.S. Retd.), President of S.E.S., S. Col. (Retd.) J.S. Bala, Secretary of S.E.S., K.S. Cheema, Joint Secretary of S.E.S and S. S. Virdi, Member of the Executive Committee, S.E.S., and Local Managing Committee. To mark the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the College Sthapana Divas (Founder's day), Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh completed the Sehaj Path and began Sri Akhand Paath Sahib under the guidance of Ms. Sukhmeen Kaur and Dr. Surinder Kaur. Alongside this, the College celebrated Basant Panchami in its premises today. A Kite Making and Decoration Competition and Miss Basant competition was organised on the occasion. Students of the Home Science department put up food and handicraft stalls in the College premises. Harshita of BCom won the first prize, Diya came in second and Mehakpreet came in third in the Kite Making and Decoration Competition. Eknoor Kaur of BA II was crowned as Miss Basant while Akoijam Jesita was the runner up in the Miss Basant competition. Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur congratulated the winners of the competition and applauded the efforts of the faculty members in organising the event.
NMBA Hostel Committee and VADA Club of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women sector 26, Chandigarh organised a Pre exam activity, ‘ De-stress with Yoga’ for the hostel as well as day scholars under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Ms Amit Chahal, an International Medalist and General Secretary, Chandigarh Yogasana Association was the resource person. This session aimed to help students de-stress and rejuvenate through yoga practices. Held under the broader initiative of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, this session aimed to promote both physical and mental well-being among students during the stressful exam season. The event was open to both hostel residents and day scholars. Ms. Chahal led the session, introducing various yoga techniques and exercises aimed at calming the mind and reducing anxiety. Her dynamic and engaging style ensured active participation and enthusiasm among the students. The Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur appreciated the efforts of the club. She said this yoga session was a successful initiative, providing a much-needed break and mental relief to students ahead of exams. The event also aligned with the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, promoting a drug-free and wellness-focused college environment.
The Post Graduate Department of Economics, GGSCW-26 in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), celebrated International Women's Day on 8th March, 2025. An Inter-college PowerPoint presentation competition was organised on the occasion, "Empowered Women, Empowered World": Celebrating and Honouring Influential Women Economists. The competition received an overwhelming response, with teams from various educational institutions across the Tricity. The participants showcased their research and creativity through thought-provoking PowerPoint presentations, including proposed business plans. The winners were awarded certificates and trophies by the Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur.
The Placement Cell of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, successfully organized a Placement Drive aimed at providing career opportunities to its students. The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and active engagement from reputed companies across various sectors. Prominent companies visited the campus. The recruitment process comprised a Pre-Placement Talk, followed by Group Discussions and Personal Interviews, providing students a comprehensive exposure to real-world selection processes. A total of 81 students from various streams participated in the drive, showcasing their skills and potential in front of industry professionals. The Principal Dr Jatinder Kaur appreciated the efforts by the Placement team of the college and motivated the students for their enthusiastic participation. The event not only facilitated employment opportunities but also helped bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations.
The Department of Psychology and the Department of Physical Education of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Chandigarh, organized a one-day national seminar on Enhancing Athletic Performance: Application of Scientific Psychology in Sports on 3rd March 2025. The seminar was sponsored by Dean College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The seminar explored the role of psychology in improving sports performance and addressing challenges faced by athletes.
The event was graced by Chief Guest S. Gurdev Singh, President of the Sikh Educational Society.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Jitendra Mohan, Emeritus Professor of Psychology, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He spoke about the evolution of sports psychology and its increasing significance in competitive sports.
The seminar featured expert lectures by Professor Yogesh Chander, Director of Sports, University of Haryana, on Feminist Psychology in Sports, and Ms. Akshita Sekhon, Sports Psychologist for the Indian Shooting Team, who shared her experiences from the Paris Olympics.
The technical session included research paper presentations on topics such as motivation, decision-making, emotional competence, performance anxiety, team dynamics, doping, barriers for women in sports, and nutrition. The session was chaired by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, Chandigarh.
The seminar concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony led by Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur. Dr. Aman Thour, Head, Department of Physical Education, GGSCW-26, Chandigarh, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of organizers, speakers, and participants.

Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, in collaboration with 1 Chandigarh Girls Bn, NCC, successfully organized a 2-day Skill Development course on "Financial Literacy" for NCC Army Wing cadets from April 30 to May 1, 2025. The course covered practical aspects of mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), focusing on value investing, financial inclusion, and risk management. 42 cadets participated and gained valuable insights. Resource person Mr. Harman Singh Sian, Assistant Professor of Economics, delivered an engaging session. Guru Gobind Singh College for Women in Sector 26, Chandigarh, organised a 2-day Skill Development course on "Bakery and Table Setting" for NCC Army Wing cadets. The event was organized in collaboration with 1 Chandigarh Girls Bn, NCC, and took place from May 1-2, 2025. Course Highlights - *Bakery Skills*: Cadets learned to make eggless brownies with truffle frosting and savory bread baskets. They also created pinwheel snacks using leftover bread. - *Table Setting and Etiquette*: The course covered laying crockery and cutlery for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Cadets were also taught fancy napkin folding and practiced it themselves. - *Service and Table Etiquette Tips*: Valuable tips on service and table etiquette were shared with the cadets. A total of 39 cadets participated in the course . Ms. Jasneet Kaur Malhi from the Department of Home Science led an engaging session. Participation certificates were dirstibuted to the cadets on successful completion of both the Skill Development courses . The ANO of the wing and resource persons received appreciation letters from the Commanding Officer for their outstanding contribution to the successful conduct of the courses.
