Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh released the seventh issue of its E-journal , Gyankosh, today. Gyankosh is an annual double blind peer reviewed interdisciplinary journal. This issue contains more than ten high-quality research papers contributing to interdisciplinary studies.

Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur complimented the editorial team in contributing to quality research studies.
 

A 5 -Day Skill Development Course was organised by Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh for 85 NCC cadets of Chandigarh Group in collaboration with 1 Chandigarh Girls Battalion NCC, Chandigarh from 27th January to 31 January, 2025 . The course, aligning with NCC’s mission to train and develop disciplined and resourceful youth, aimed to provide cadets with essential skills that will help enhance their personal and professional growth. The curriculum included classes on leadership, team building, wellness, wisdom, embracing challenges while persisting through failure, decision making and developing soft skills. 85 girl cadets from 08 colleges of UT participated in this course.

The course concluded with distribution of certificates to participants and felicitation of the faculty by Dr Jatinder Kaur, Principal GGSCW and Col A S Randhawa. The cadets shared their experiences as to how the course has benefitted them.The course was conceptualized and coordinated by Lieutenant ( Dr) Ritu Dhanoa, Associate NCC Officer of GGSCW.

A Workshop on PMEGP was conducted by the Placement Cell and Commerce department of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh in collaboration with RCED Chandigarh on 28th January 2025. The workshop was attended by 115 students.

The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship, particularly among youth. Launched in 2008, the scheme is implemented by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and operates at a national level, providing financial assistance to individuals and small enterprises.The students were apprised with the objectives of PMEGP which included generation of self-employment opportunities in rural and urban areas by providing financial support to start small-scale enterprises. It also aims to reduce unemployment among the youth by empowering them to create their own jobs and enhance the rural economy by promoting traditional industries and skills. PMEGP also helps create a sustainable model of growth through entrepreneurship.

No minimum educational qualification is required for projects costing up to ?10 lakhs in the manufacturing sector and ?5 lakhs in the service sector. The scheme provides a subsidy ranging from 15% to 35% of the project cost, depending on the location and category of the applicant. The remaining amount can be availed as a loan from banks or financial institutions.

The programme supports a variety of industries, including agro-based, food processing, textiles, handicrafts, and service-oriented enterprises. Special attention is given to the development of traditional crafts and industries.

In addition, training in entrepreneurship development is provided to applicants to ensure the successful operation of their enterprises. Assistance in preparing project reports and accessing bank loans is also offered. It has encouraged youth to take up entrepreneurship, reducing dependence on government jobs. The scheme has contributed to the preservation and promotion of traditional industries, thereby fostering cultural heritage.

Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, applauded the efforts of the faculty members in organising such an important workshop. She further stated that the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme is a transformative initiative for aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly students. By leveraging this scheme, young minds can not only fulfill their entrepreneurial dreams but also contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation. It is crucial to promote awareness of PMEGP among students to encourage innovation, self-reliance, and economic growth.
 

The International Girl Child Day celebration at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh was organized by the Placement Cell in collaboration with Procter & Gamble (P&G) Company Ltd. The event, held on 24th January 2025, aimed to inspire and empower young women students by providing them with valuable insights into girl empowerment, personality development, health, hygiene, career opportunities, professional development, and personal growth. The event featured sessions from industry professionals and on topics relating to career guidance, and networking opportunities.

The objective of the event was to promote gender inclusivity and empower female students. The talk aimed to establish a connection between students and P&G, enhancing future recruitment possibilities.

A senior executive from P&G addressed the students, sharing her personal journey, challenges faced, and how she overcame them to succeed in her career. The session emphasized leadership qualities, resilience, and the importance of self-confidence in the corporate world.
She also provided an insight into how P&G fosters a diverse and inclusive work environment and the opportunities available for women.

RAHAT Society of GGSCW-26 added to the celebrations by conducting a rally to spread awareness in the adopted village Kishangarh. Students used posters for the rally to spread awareness about the importance of a girl child.

Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur applauded the efforts of both the Placement cell and RAHAT Society in celebrating and raising awareness about such an important day.

The team brought home an impressive 13 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal. The Yachting team added to this tally by winning 1 gold and 1 silver medal.

Dr. Jatinder Kaur, Principal,was honored at a State-level event organized by the Department of Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, on 21st February 2025 at PGGCG-42. The event was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Sh Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator. The College was recognized for its significant contributions in fostering a healthy and empowered generation free from drug abuse.
 

Department of Psychology of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, sector-26, Chandigarh, in collaboration with GGSCW Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness & the Art of Living organized a workshop on the first World Meditation Day on 21st December 2024. This workshop aimed to promote emotional health and enhance well-being.

The resource person on the occasion was Ms. Madhavi Rana, a dedicated teacher from The Art of Living. The workshop started with sooksham vyayam (streching exercises )followed by 30 minutes of guided meditation for soothing the nerves and enhancing focus in the participants. The resource person stressed that meditation was not about achieving perfection, but cultivating a deeper sense of peace and connection within.

Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur thanked the resource person and wished to have more sessions in the coming future.

 

GGSCW-26 is elated to share that its campus has been adjudged the Best Maintained College Campus during the 53rd Chandigarh Rose Festival, 2025 organised by Municipal corporation Chandigarh
 

Ms. Nitu, an alumna of GGSCW-26 became the proud recipient of the Arjuna Award. The award, officially known as Arjuna Awards given for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games, is the second-highest sporting honour of India and honours hard work, dedication and concentration of sportspersons.

The award was conferred on Ms. Nitu by the Hon'ble President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu during an official function on 17th January, 2025. The award recognises her immense contribution to the field of boxing (48 kg category) at the international level. She had also won various championships while pursuing her graduation from Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, like AIBA Youth Women's World Boxing Championship, 3rd International Women's and Women's Youth Boxing Tournament Balkan, ASBC Asian Youth Men's and Women's Boxing Championship, AIBA Youth Women's and Men's World Championship, Youth Women's International Championship, 2nd Youth Men's and Women's National Boxing Championship and Khelo India Games.
 

The campus of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, echoed with the soulful strains of Gurbani Kirtan as students, faculty, and staff gathered to celebrate Founder’s Day of the College on 14th February, 2025.

To honour the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and mark the Founder's Day, the event commenced with the bhog of Sri Akhand Paath Sahib, followed by an inspiring performance of Shabad Kirtan by the students of the College and Bhai Hargeet Singh, Tabla instructor in the College. The highlight of the occasion was the enthralling Shabad Kirtan by Bhai Shubhdeep Singh, Hazoori Ragi from Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar. His melodious rendition left the attendees deeply moved and mesmerized.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries of Sikh Education Society, including S. Gurdev Singh (I.A.S. Retd.), President of S.E.S., S. Col. (Retd.) J.S. Bala, Secretary of S.E.S., K.S. Cheema, Joint Secretary of S.E.S and S. S. Virdi, Member of the Executive Committee, S.E.S., and Local Managing Committee. They expressed their admiration for the diligent efforts of the Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur and the conveners of the function, Prof. Sukhmeen Kaur and Prof. Surinder Kaur, for successfully organizing the event.

The programme concluded with the traditional Guru ka Langar, served with deep faith and devotion, marking the spirit of unity and service that defines the essence of the day.

The spirit of unity, tradition, and festivity was on full display as GGSCW-26 celebrated Lohri with immense enthusiasm. Organized by the Department of Punjabi in Collaboration with the DSW team, the event brought together students, faculty, and staff for the day of cultural extravaganza.

The celebrations commenced with the traditional lighting of the bonfire, symbolizing the harvest festival's essence. Principal Dr. Jatinder Kaur and other faculty members lit the fire and shared words of wisdom about the importance of Lohri in Punjabi culture. The gathering sang traditional folk songs such as "Sundar Mundariye," while offerings of peanuts, popcorn, Sesame and jaggery were made to the sacred fire as part of the rituals.

The event concluded with everyone dancing together to the beats of the DJ, making it a memorable day for all participants. More than 250 students and faculty members were part of the celebration. The Lohri festivities at GGSCW-26 exemplified the spirit of harmony and the importance of preserving cultural traditions in an academic environment.

To mark the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the College Sthapana Divas (Founder's day), Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh completed the Sehaj Path and began Sri Akhand Paath Sahib under the guidance of Ms. Sukhmeen Kaur and Dr. Surinder Kaur. Alongside this, the College celebrated Basant Panchami in its premises today. A Kite Making and Decoration Competition and Miss Basant competition was organised on the occasion. Students of the Home Science department put up food and handicraft stalls in the College premises.

Harshita of BCom won the first prize, Diya came in second and Mehakpreet came in third in the Kite Making and Decoration Competition. Eknoor Kaur of BA II was crowned as Miss Basant while Akoijam Jesita was the runner up in the Miss Basant competition.

Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur congratulated the winners of the competition and applauded the efforts of the faculty members in organising the event.

The Post Graduate Department of Economics, GGSCW-26 in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), celebrated International Women's Day on 8th March, 2025. An Inter-college PowerPoint presentation competition was organised on the occasion, "Empowered Women, Empowered World": Celebrating and Honouring Influential Women Economists.

The competition received an overwhelming response, with teams from various educational institutions across the Tricity. The participants showcased their research and creativity through thought-provoking PowerPoint presentations, including proposed business plans. The winners were awarded certificates and trophies by the Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur.

Future Business Shark (FBS) 3.0 was conducted by the Post Graduate Department of Commerce, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh in collaboration with hitbulls eye.
FBS 3.0 is North India's largest inter-college business event bringing together students from 150+ institutions which aims to ignite entrepreneurial spirit and foster innovation. Around 100 students participated in the quiz and written test conducted by hitbulls eye and won many prizes, in turn motivating budding entrepreneurs and business leaders. The selected students will now compete in the final round to be held in Amity University.

Principal , Dr Jatinder Kaur, lauded the efforts of the Commerce Department in organising the event and encouraged the students to perform to the best of their abilities.
 

With immense zeal, fervour and excitement, the Environment Society- VASUDHA, of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector- 26, Chandigarh, organized an expert lecture on Renewable Energy and Green Technology, sponsored by CREST, Chandigarh Administration, on 5th February, 2025.

Mr Sushil Dogra, Scientist with Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee, delivered the lecture, emphasizing the importance of energy conservation and renewable resources. He further delved into the novel projects of Chandigarh Administration, under LiFE, and motivated students to make the campus plastic free by using paper and cloth bags.

The Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, applauded the efforts of the environment society in promoting the cause of environmental conservation.
 

The Department of Psychology and the Department of Physical Education of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Chandigarh, organized a one-day national seminar on Enhancing Athletic Performance: Application of Scientific Psychology in Sports on 3rd March 2025. The seminar was sponsored by Dean College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The seminar explored the role of psychology in improving sports performance and addressing challenges faced by athletes.

The event was graced by Chief Guest S. Gurdev Singh, President of the Sikh Educational Society.

The keynote address was delivered by Professor Jitendra Mohan, Emeritus Professor of Psychology, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He spoke about the evolution of sports psychology and its increasing significance in competitive sports.

The seminar featured expert lectures by Professor Yogesh Chander, Director of Sports, University of Haryana, on Feminist Psychology in Sports, and Ms. Akshita Sekhon, Sports Psychologist for the Indian Shooting Team, who shared her experiences from the Paris Olympics.

The technical session included research paper presentations on topics such as motivation, decision-making, emotional competence, performance anxiety, team dynamics, doping, barriers for women in sports, and nutrition. The session was chaired by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, Chandigarh.

The seminar concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony led by Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur. Dr. Aman Thour, Head, Department of Physical Education, GGSCW-26, Chandigarh, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of organizers, speakers, and participants.

NCC ‘B ‘ Certificate examination was conducted in the campus of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh on 2nd February, 2025. A total of 640 cadets from across the colleges of Chandigarh and belonging to the 4 Battalions appeared in the examination. The 4 Battalions consist of 1 Chandigarh Girls Bn NCC, 2 Chandigarh Bn NCC, 1 Chandigarh Naval unit NCC And 1 Chandigarh Air Sqd NCC.

Col A S Randhawa expressed his sincere gratitude to the College Management and Principal for granting permission to conduct the examination.
