The VADA Club and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) Hostel committee of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women organized a Capacity Building Workshop on ‘Youth Leadership in Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan: Paving the Way for a Viksit Bharat 2047 with Drug-free Institutions’ led by Mr Dikshant Sharma, Field Expert—MV, Research & Evaluation, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. The resource person highlighted the problem of drug abuse among young people using several case studies and data. The students were made aware of the causes behind drug addiction and ways to prevent this problem through self-awareness and self-control.
GGSCW-26 is elated to share that its students performed fabulously on the first day of the PU Youth and Heritage Festival 2024-25, Chandigarh Zone 1 and won prizes in the following events: 1. First Prize in the individual category in SKIT 2. Second prize in Mimicry 3. Third prize in Folk Orchestra GGSCW-26 family congratulates all the winners on their achievement.

Outgoing president Shreya Batra delivered an inspiring speech, reflecting on the club’s success in community service and fundraising projects over the past year. Incoming president Diksha shared an ambitious vision for the upcoming year, focusing on leadership development and expanding community impact through diverse initiatives. Department of Hindi, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh celebrated Hindi Divas on 14th September 2024. A Rangoli competition was organised on the occasion. Students from various streams participated enthusiastically in the competition as well as the celebrations of Hindi Divas. Vice Principal, Ms. Prabhjot Kaur appreciated the efforts of the department in celebrating such a special day.
Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, sector 26, Chandigarh, a premier higher education institution with A+ NAAC grade, organised a freshers’ party to welcome the new batches of students at its campus. The event was a spectacular blend of music, dance, and camaraderie, setting the tone for the new academic year and creating unforgettable memories for the newcomers. The event included a series of dazzling performances by seniors, including dance routines and musical acts highlighting the diverse talents within the college community. One of the main attractions of the evening was the ramp walk, where participants showcased their confidence and charm in front of a panel of judges. Ms. Harpreet of B.Com won the title of Miss Fresher, while Chahaita (BCA) bagged the first runner up position, with Stanzin Angmo (BA) winning the second runner up position. Khushi (BCom) was awarded the title of Miss Charming and Aman Khan (BA) won the title of Miss Elegant. The DJ set the dance floor on fire with a mix of popular tracks, and the dance floor was soon packed with students enjoying themselves. A special photo booth was also set up by VADA club of the college to apprise students about substance abuse. Ms. Prabhjot Kaur, Vice Principal encouraged the students to embrace every opportunity and transform it into success. She urged them to participate in various activities, be it clubs, sports, or cultural events to make the most of their journey in the college. The freshers’ party concluded with a vote of thanks by the Dean, Student Welfare, who expressed gratitude to all who contributed to making the event a grand success. The event ended on a high note, leaving the new students excited and enthusiastic about their journey ahead at the college.
The Transgender Cell of GGSCW-26 successfully organized an enlightening lecture on "Awareness on Transgender Issues" on 13th August, 2024. The event aimed to foster understanding and inclusivity towards the transgender community within the college and the broader society. The lecture was delivered by Mr Amit, Counsellor from Transgender Protection Cell, Department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh, and an expert in gender studies. The speaker highlighted the challenges faced by transgender individuals, including social stigma, discrimination, and access to education and healthcare. Emphasizing the importance of empathy and support, the lecture also covered legal rights and the role of educational institutions in creating a safe and inclusive environment for all students. Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, applauded the efforts of the Nodal officers, Harman Singh Sian and Dr Anju Bala, for organising the event.
A Financial Literacy Programme was held at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh aimed at equipping faculty members with financial management skills. It was held under the initiative taken by Reserve Bank of Indian and Director of Higher Education, Chandigarh. The programme was conducted by the officials from Kotak Mahindra Bank. Kotak experts covered key financial principles, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between needs and wants, strategies to get out of debt, and the value of living within one’s means. Faculty members were encouraged to adopt prudent financial practices, such as saving a significant portion of income, minimizing unnecessary spending, and only borrowing when necessary for investments or starting a business. The session also included valuable advice on digital banking safety. Kotak experts shared practical tips for debit and credit card security, such as avoiding storing card details online, using secure networks, and setting up transaction alerts to monitor account activity. The session concluded with insights into customer rights and the government’s Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, which aims to address banking grievances effectively. Vice Principal, Ms Prabhjot Kaur, applauded the initiative of the government and RBI. She also thanked Kotak Mahindra Bank for its commitment to empowering the faculty members with essential financial literacy and responsible money management skills.
The Wellness Gateway at GGSCW's Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness, in collaboration with the Department of Psychology, successfully hosted a 3-Day Mental Health Camp (8-10 October, 2024). The camp aimed to promote mental well-being among students through diverse creative activities, including poetry writing/recitation, slogan writing, poster making, photography, and personality assessment. Students unwound and expressed themselves through workshops on Radiant Rhythms and Art Therapy, fostering stability.
Mental Health Expert and Director of Ikasai Consultancy, Mumbai, Ms. Aneet Bedi, delivered a pivotal online lecture emphasizing the importance of good mental health, stressing the significance of collective support in coping with life's challenges.
The camp culminated in free personality testing conducted by Psychology Department students. By organizing this camp, GGSCW reaffirmed its commitment to supporting mental well-being, demonstrating its values and dedication to student welfare.
Post Graduate Department of Commerce of GGSCW-26 in association with hitsbullseye organized a seminar on "Careers After Graduation". The seminar, led by their esteemed speaker, Mr. Rajeev Markanday, was attended by 95 enthusiastic students eager to explore the various career opportunities that await them after graduation. Mr. Markanday’s session provided a comprehensive overview of diverse career paths, emphasizing the significance of early career planning, which is essential for a successful transition from academic life to the professional world. While highlighting the theme, the speaker described the key attributes such as confidence, listening skills, observation skills, group discussions, verbal and non-verbal communication with relevant examples. Students were also enlightened on a discussion available for career guidance after their graduation.
