GGSCW Volunteers visit to Raipur Khurd Village under Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan

Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh held its Annual Prize Distribution Function in Mata Ganga Auditorium on April 16, 2019. Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Dean College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Honourable Chief Guest for the occasion. S. Gurdev Singh, President and S. Kulbir Singh, Vice President, Sikh Educational Society also graced the occasion with their presence. The function commenced on an auspicious note with the recital of the College Shabad. The Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur delivered the welcome address and presented the Annual Report of the College, highlighting the achievements of the students in academics, sports and cultural activities.


The Environment Society –VASUDHA and Rotaract Club of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women-26, Chandigarh in collaboration with Rotary Chandigarh Mid Town organized a plantation drive of Herbal and Medicinal Plants in Herbal Garden of the College on 7th Feb, 2020. Rtn Rita Kalra, Past President; Rtn Vinod Jawa, Past President and Rtn Nitin Kapoor Secretary along with the Principal, Staff and students of the College, planted 50 plants given by the club. The Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur explained the significance of commonly available and frequently used herbal plants in our daily life.
The College resonated with the melodious enchantings of Gurbani Kirtan as the students and the staff celebrated the 550th year of the Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, commemorated the Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji along with the Founder’s Day of our esteemd and distinguished College, from 6th -8th February, 2020. The soul- stirring Kirtan was performed by Bhai Jagdeep Singh Ji (Sri Dabaar Sahib) and Gurmat Vichar was shared by Bhai Singh Sahib Giani Maan Singh Ji (Head Granthi Sri Darbaar Sahib) which weaved the Sangat into the divine thread. The students and the staff also recited Shabad Kirtan which was immensely enthralling. S. Gurdev Singh, President and S. Col. (Retd.) J.S. Bala, Secretary, SES, Chandigarh were also an integral part of this divine celebration. Lecture and Workshop conducted by Dr. Savneet and Dr. Aradhana Mehtani on 1st February, 2020 with the residents of adopted area in Kishangarh Village. Information was provided regarding symptoms of depression for diagnosing it at its nascent stage. Its prevention is also demonstrated by doing meditation by the experts and its cure by taking patient for right medication before it advances more.
The College celebrated World Wetlands Day-2020 on 2nd February, 2020 with great zeal and fervor. Under the sponsorship of Environment Department, Chandigarh Administration, the Environment Society of our College (VASUDHA), celebrated the day with students’ visit to Sukhna Lake and Nagar Van for a Nature-walk and enhancing their awareness about the wetlands and our biodiversity. The students enthusiastically participated in the event. The Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur applauded the students for taking a great initiative towards saving our Environment.
The Senior Captain Cadet, Devika (B. Com-III) was adjudged the ‘All India Best Cadet’ in the Senior Wing (Navy) at the Republic Day Camp, 2020. The Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh NCC Directorate has been awarded the best NCC Directorate at the Republic Day Camp, 2020. A total of 2,155 Cadets including 710 girls from 17 NCC Directorates representing all 28 states and 9 Union Territories had participated in the Camp. Amrita Sahani (B.Sc-II) won the gold in Ship Modelling competition held at Republic Day Camp-2020. The Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, congratulated both for bringing laurels to the College and making the College proud.
GGSCW 26, Chandigarh performed spectacularly and bagged Four Gold Medals in four different categories. The College won a Gold Medal in Panjab University Inter College Netball (Women) Competition, held at Panjab University, Gymnasium Hall on 28th-29th January, 2020. Ten teams participated in the event. The winning spree continued in other three events too like Kayaking, Dragon, Canoeing Inter-College Tournaments. The College won Gold Medals in all the three events held at Lake Club on 27th -29th January 2020. Seven teams participated in the event. The Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur congratulated the students for bringing laurels to the College and making the College proud.
The College conducted an advanced career test- a Psychometric Test for the 3rd year students of the College on 1st February, 2020, in collaboration with PEARL DISCOVER, designed to evaluate the students’ interests, aptitude, personality and emotional quotient. They also offered career development options to the students. The Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur encouraged the students to participate in such events to enhance their critical skills.
