Department of Science, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organized an Expert Lecture on National Science Day which was sponsored by Department of Science & Technology & Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration. Dr. Baban Kumar of CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organization, Sector 30, Chandigarh was invited to deliver an expert talk on the topic, “Jal Jeevan Mission Emerging Technologies and Innovation: IoT enabled Water Quality Monitoring”. In his expert talk, Dr Kumar, discussed the benefits of using IoT technology for monitoring water quality in order to reduce the risk of contamination. The expert lecture was well received and promoted knowledge and understanding in students about the latest trends and developments in the field of water quality monitoring.
Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, thanked the guest speaker for enlightening the students about the ongoing Scientific Research on water quality monitoring and lauded the efforts of the department for organising such an informative lecture.
In order to celebrate 50 glorious years of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, in the field of education, the Department of Computer Science and Applications organised IT Fiesta on February 24, 2023. It was organised with the aim to promote awareness of science and technology amongst the youth.
Mr. Deepak Sehdev, Director of Operations, Vivajiva Pvt. Ltd. was the honourable Chief Guest for the occasion. He apprised the students of the exponentially growing technology and the need to keep pace with technology.
Students from 15 Colleges in and around the city participated in this event with over 200 entries. Various competitions were held under this event pertaining to IT like Website Designing, Software Development, Rangoli, Poster making, e-Waste modelling and PowerPoint presentations for which the winners were felicitated.
The Chief Guest, Deepak Sehdev, congratulated both the College and the Department for organizing such an event and stressed on the importance of such competitions which help in personality development.
Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, appreciated the efforts of the Computer Department and encouraged students to participate in such events in order to excel in all walks of life.
The two-day International Seminar on the theme of “Swasth Bharat se Sampan Bharat: Resilience, the Need of the Hour” under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi and organised by Post-Graduate Department of Economics, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh entered its first day in the presence of esteemed foreign dignitaries and luminaries from across disciplines and fields of expertise. The inaugural session of the international seminar began with Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur extending a warm welcome to all the dignitaries, scholars and delegates and thanking them for taking out precious time from their busy schedules. This was followed by Dr Reena Parti, HoD, Post-Graduate Department of Economics, delivering the concept note and welcoming the esteemed guests and then inviting Professor Pritam Singh, Emeritus Professor of Economics, Oxford Brookes Business School, UK to deliver the keynote address in which he spoke at length about the relationship between economy and nature. His address was followed by the lecture of Professor Ranjit Singh Ghuman, Professor of Eminence, G.N.D.U., Amritsar who shed light on rural development in light of the overall development of Indian economy. Professor Sanjay Kaushik (Dean College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh) and Dr Davinder Kumar Madaan (Professor of Economics & Head, School of Social Sciences, Panjabi University, Patiala) also graced the occasion and gave their insights with regards to the future of India as well as Indian economy.
The inaugural session was followed by a panel discussion which was moderated by Dr Saamdu Chetri, Fmr. head, Good Governance, PMO, Bhutan who added a unique flair to the inter-disciplinary panel discussion consisting of Dt. Sunita Malhotra, Fmr. Chief Dietician and Head, Department of Dietetics, PGIMER, Chd.; Dr Aastha Takkar Kapila, Associate Professor, Dept of Neurology, PGIMER, Chd., Ms. Raksha Sharda, Vice-President, Primus Partners and Dr Subhash Chander, Additional Director, DGRE, DRDO.
The day ended with parallel technical sessions where post-graduate students, researchers, and eminent scholars presented papers on various topics which tied their research into the basic theme and sub-themes of the two-day international seminar.
Day 2 of the two-day International seminar began with a lecture by Dr Saamdu Chetri, Fmr. head, Good Governance, PMO, Bhutan on the topic, "Mindfulness: the GNH way to Resilience". At the outset, he conducted a small meditation session to reinvigorate the mind and body of the audience. In his lecture, he talked at length about the Bhutanese way of living on the basis of Gross National Happiness (GNH) index instead of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) led development. He enlightened the audience about the relationship which exists between the self, itself, society and nature. At the end, he wished everyone 'Tashi Delek', a Tibetan expression, which means, good luck and prosperity.
This session was followed by an Art Therapy Workshop based on the concept of Eudaimonia or state of good spirit, happiness and welfare. Art Therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art, to improve a person’s physical, mental and emotional well-being. This workshop was conducted by faculty members of GGSCW-26. During the workshop, the delegates were greeted with somber music, fragrance of moringa and jasmine along with a sweet which were used to calm the nerves and enhance the sense of taste and smell. The delegates were then given river stones to paint while sitting in the lap of nature (the Garden of Happiness). The delegates were also given the Oxford Happiness questionnaire to fill out and assess the level of happiness in their life.
This was followed by parallel technical sessions where once again graduate students, post-graduate researchers, scholars and academicians presented their research work.
The international seminar concluded with the valedictory address by Dr Subhash Chander Varma, Director, Internal Medicine Fortis Hospital, Mohali who re-emphasised the theme of Health as a complete state of social and mental health. He stressed that the health of a nation is proportional to the harmony in the people of that nation and so, while Sampan Bharat comprises of good health facilities and access to those facilities. He also encouraged the audience to start exercising in the morning and keep the surroundings clean. Prof. H.S. Shergill, Emeritus Professor of Economics, Panjab University, Chd. also graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
At the conclusion, delegates with the best paper presentations in each technical session were presented with Best paper awards and the winners for the same were; Ms. Shrishti Aggarwal & Ms. Tanishka Rathore, Toolika Mishra, Ramandeep Kaur and Jinny Sharma, representing different regions of our vast country.

The NSS unit of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organized a 7 day NSS camp in the College campus under the theme of "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Fit India Campaign”.
Various activities undertaken during the 7 day camp included a Self defence training program, Skill development workshop, lectures on Fitness and Drug abuse, Cleanliness drive and Poster making in which all the volunteers participated quite enthusiastically. NSS volunteers also took pledges for Swachhtha and Fitness, and visited Ashiana, a Children's Home and Snehalya, an Old Age Home and distributed goodies to the needy. Volunteers performed a Nukkad Natak as well and organized an awareness drive at the village adopted by the College. Program Officers, Ms.Arshveer Kaur and Ms.Savita Saini encouraged the students at every step of the way, throughout the week.
Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, felicitated the volunteers on the valedictory function and lauded the efforts of both the students and Program Officers on the successful conclusion of the week long camp.
In order to commemorate 50 glorious years in the field of education, Gurmat Vichar Sabha and the Department of Music of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organized a ‘Gurmat Sangeet Samagam’ on February 11, 2023 under the aegis of Sikh Educational Society. The College campus resonated with melodious renditions of Gurbani Shabad Kirtan as the students and staff celebrated the College Sthapana Divas. Teams from various institutions across Punjab and Himachal Pradesh were invited to participate in the Samagam.
The programme commenced with the singing of Shabad by college students. The College campus echoed with the mesmerizing Gurmat Sangeet performances from the teams of Jawaddi Taksal (Ludhiana), Akal Academy, Baru Sahib (H.P.) and Namdhari Music Academy, Sri Bhaini Sahib, (Ludhiana).
The team from Jawaddi Taksal captivated the audience with their rendition of "Har Jiyo Aape Laye Milaye" in raag Basant with taus, dilruba, rabab, tabla and esraj (shehnayi) as accompaniments. The team from Akal Academy, Baru Sahib enthralled the audience with their performance of "Maha Mah Mumarkhi Chadiya Sada Basant" in raag Basant while playing dilruba, violin, tar shehnai, taus, sarangi, sitar and tabla. The team from Namdhari Music Academy gave a serene performance of "Gursevo Kar Namaskar" in raag Basant with the help of harmonium, dilruba, tanpura, surmandal, sitar, sarangi and tabla. The programme culminated with Guru ka Langar.
S. Gurdev Singh (President), Col. (Retd.) J. S. Bala (Secretary), Karandeep Singh Cheema (Joint Secretary) and Engineer Surinder Singh Virdi (member, Executive committee SES and Local managing committee) of the Sikh Educational Society graced the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur and the convenors, Ms. Sukhmeen Bal, Dr Surinder Kaur and Ms. Lucky Malhotra for successfully organising such a tranquil event.

Under the aegis of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Department of Computer Science & Applications of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh organized a One Day Skill Development Workshop on ‘Tally Prime’ on February 9th, 2023. Mrs. Aditi and Ms. Anchal of Ica Edu Skills Pvt Ltd, Chandigarh were invited as resource persons for the inter-college activity.
The main aim of the workshop was to provide the participants with an introduction to Tally Prime, an all-inclusive business management tool. The software helps businesses manage invoicing, accounting, inventory, banking, cash and credit management, payroll, and cost management all from one place. In addition, it allows one to focus on business growth by eliminating complexities and enhances business efficiency which is the need of the hour.
Around 50 non-teaching staff members, from various institutions across Chandigarh, participated in the workshop and were able to successfully enhance their management skills.

Under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organised an interactive discussion with Mrs Charanjeet Kaur, Consultant-Clinical Psychologist, Hypnotherapist & Past Life Regression Therapist at MY Hospital. In her talk, she discussed at length about youth and the drug addiction pandemic. She highlighted the direct relationship between addiction, loneliness and comparison with peers and shared the remedy for the same which begins with developing self confidence and inculcating decision making ability.
In light of the upcoming International Women's day, Mrs. Kaur also shed light on the topic of Gender discrimination which is still prevalent in our society. Even though females are mentally, physically and emotionally stronger and have extended their reach into the male strongholds, yet religion and social constraints do not allow them freedom in the true sense.
