Under the aegis of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Vasudha- Environment Society of the College organized an 'Oath Ceremony' on 30th October, 2021, to say no to crackers this Diwali. This initiative of students will help mitigate the environment pollution as these crackers are a source of highly toxic chemical pollutants.

Around 50 students and staff members of the College took this oath to protect the rights of thousands of children who work in the cracker manufacturing factories.

The Principal of the College, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, encouraged the students to practice "Green Diwali- Swachh Diwali" by generating less non-biodegradable waste.

Raahat, the welfare society of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, organised an online talk on the topic ‘Balanced Diet for Children and Women’ on September 29, 2021 to celebrate ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah.’ The month of September is celebrated as Rashtriya Poshan Maah across the country as part of National Nutrition Mission - a programme started by the government to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers aiming for holistic nutrition.

Raahat coordinators, Mrs Prabhjot Kaur and Dr Aradhna Mehtani, welcomed the Speaker for the event, Ms. Jasneet Kaur Malhi, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women. Ms. Malhi educated the students about the importance and role of right nutrition especially for children and women. She asserted that a balanced diet with a combination of essential nutrients and calories is pivotal for the smooth working and growth of the human body. She also spoke about the significance of meal portions and their timing. The role of exercise in good sleep and in relieving stress was also stressed.

The talk was attended by the students of the college and mothers from neighbouring villages like Raipur Kala, Raipur Khurd, Mullapur, Sarangpur and Parach. Ms Malhi catered to their queries related to nutrition and cleared up their doubts.

The Vice Principal and programme coordinator, Mrs Prabhjot Kaur, thanked Ms Malhi for coaching the students on the benefits of a balanced diet.

 

 

 

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh conducted a webinar on the occasion of International Fraud Awareness Week, under the aegis of IQAC on 26th November, 2021.

 

The key speakers for the webinar were Mr. Manoj Das, Mrs. Divyanshu Vij and Mr. Vipin Jain. Under an initiative, commenced by RBI, the HDFC Bank took responsibility to spread awareness about digital frauds.

 

The team of the eminent speakers acquainted the students with terms like fishing, vishing and smishing. Students were also apprised of various measures to safeguard themselves from digital frauds.

 

Around 100 students ardently participated in the webinar and learnt a lot from the interactive session.

 

The Principal of the College, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, applauded the efforts of the Department of Commerce in organising a webinar on such a vital topic. She encouraged the students to participate in more such events that will help them become vigilant citizens of society.

 

 

 
 
 

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, organised a webinar on ‘Career Counselling for Future Readiness' on October 27, 2021, which was addressed by Mr. Pranav Chauhan, an eminent speaker and Verbal Expert at HITBULLSEYE. The main objective of the webinar was to enlighten the students about the importance of choosing the right career. Mr. Chauhan emphasized the cultivation of leadership qualities amongst students. He dwelled on selecting the best alternative that facilitates the students to embark on their chosen career path. The speaker highlighted the importance of correct focus in life. Guiding the students as to starting their own venture, he discussed the various challenges and opportunities one faces on their way. Mr. Chauhan guided the students for appearing in various competitive exams such as SSC, UPSC and various banking exams.

The entire session was highly interactive, informative and extremely insightful. The speaker motivated the students to carve their own niches and chase their dreams. More than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students enthusiastically participated in the webinar.

The Department of Political Science and History of GGSCW celebrated Constitution Day on 26th November, 2021, to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution.

 

More than 100 students enthusiastically participated in the live telecast of celebrations of Constitution Day from the Central Hall of Parliament, organised by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, Govt. Of India, where they read the Preamble of the Constitution with their teachers.

 

Students were apprised of the significance of this historical day when the Constitution was adopted in 1949. They were also informed that the Constitution Day this year was being organized with 'Jan Bhagidari' on a mega scale. Students were also told that our country is celebrating its 75th Year of Independence as "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" this year.

The Hon'ble President of India also released two web portals related to the Constitution to mark the occasion.

 

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, organised a webinar on 'Basic Financial Literacy- Banking and Financial Services' on 25th October, 2021.

The webinar was addressed by Mr. Manohar Puranik who is a Financial Education Counselor with the ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, Vadodara, since 2017.

The main objective of the event was to enlighten the students about the importance of savings to meet the uncertainties of the future. During the webinar, Mr. Manohar stressed on the difference between savings and regular income. He emphasized on regulating our spending habits and avoiding impulsive buying. He focused on the fact that the vital fundamental of life is 'Saving First and Then Spend'. The speaker highlighted how imperative it is for every individual to have a bank account. He made the students aware of the procedures and requirements for opening an account in a bank and also, how online banking has made our life easy. He also guided the students on how savings can be invested in various options available in the market to attract better returns. He concluded the session by alerting the students of online frauds and suggested ways of remaining safe from the same. The webinar was conducted online and as many as 150 undergraduate and postgraduate students participated from the Department of Commerce. On the whole, it proved to be a highly informative session.

Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Head of Department, Department of Commerce concluded the session with a vote of thanks. She thanked Mr. Manohar for the insightful and enriching session and urged the students to adhere to his instructions while using online banking.

The Department of Computer Science and Applications in collaboration with Placement Cell of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, organised a Webinar on “Soft Skills and Resume Writing” on 23rd November 2021. The resource person for the event was Ms. Amanpreet Kaur, Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Chandigarh,

This webinar aimed at educating students on the significance of Soft Skills and Resume Writing in finding suitable employment and for accelerating career progression. Ms. Kaur enumerated various key soft skills and gave pointers on how to cultivate them. She highlighted the importance of skills such as team-work, time-management, empathy, delegation of work, problem solving, and critical thinking in the workplace. She also spoke about the relevance of these skills in building personal relationships outside of the office. In addition, Ms. Kaur gave tips to write a well-structured, clean and precise resume.

She emphasised that an effective resume can create a positive impression on a prospective recruiter and help achieve your dream job.

The Department of Psychology, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organised a photography competition on 7th October, 2021.

 

The main objective of this competition was to discover the joy of photography and recognise its importance as an alternative therapy for improving mental health and well-being. Photography helps people overcome anxiety, daily tensions and depression. It also boosts self esteem, confidence, memory and decision making.

 

Detaching themselves from the daily worries, the participants enthusiastically showcased their creativity by clicking photographs on the themes of nature, emotions, and play with light.

Aatifa Masood of BA-I, Ritika Negi of BA-II and Nandita of BCom-II, Ananya of BA-I and Ekta Jain of BA-II won the first, second, third and consolation prize respectively.

A Diwali bonanza was organized at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, on 2nd November, 2021, by the Departments of Home Science and Fine Arts.

'Club Saksham', the entrepreneurial venture of Department of Home Science of the College, organized an exhibition cum sale of homemade cakes in their 'Cake Stall'.

Parallely, the Department of Fine Arts, under the scheme, 'Earn While You Learn', exhibited their paintings and sketches for sale. The dupattas and masks made by the students stole the show and were sold off in no time.

 

The NSS volunteers of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, put up a stall of candles and diyas for sale in the College campus on 2nd November 2021 for the upcoming festival of Diwali.

Also, the volunteers and the NSS Program Officers, Ms. Arshveer Kaur and Ms. Savita, took a pledge to celebrate a cracker free green Diwali. The sale proceeds from the stall will be donated to the Institute for Blind, Sector 26, Chandigarh.
